Weekly Training Log #4 May 26-June 1

June 2, 2008

Back in Germany, my home away from home (away from home). I don’t remember ever being in Osnabrueck but Joey tells me that we played there during our first season with LahnDill.  I have no choice but to believe him.  I have a bad memory for that sort of thing.  Let me rephrase that; I have a bad memory.

3 day training camp leading into a 3 day tournament with Germany, Great Britain, and the Aussies.  It was a challenging week.  The little General conspired with nature to produce an itinerary that skillfully combined the pleasures of high intensity with high humidity.  More to come on the tournament…

Weekly Training Log #3 May 19-25

June 2, 2008

My last week in Kits.  Packed up the bachelor pad and rented a room in Langley, since I’ll be away almost the entire summer.  I decided that paying Kitsilano rent is only defensible on the grounds that you actually live there, and not out of a suitcase.

Not my best week in terms of volume, but I managed to be efficient when I was in the gym.

Monday May 19 – lifting

Tuesday May 20 – lifting, shooting 45 min

Wednesday May 21 – evening practice 2 hrs – scrimmage, chair skills, shooting

Thursday May 22 – 90 min shooting with Bear using the Gun

Friday May 23 – 1 hr shooting

Weekend – 1 hr shooting – packing – moving – sleeping?

Weekly Training Log #2 May 12-18

May 23, 2008

Started the week off with a few days of rest and recovery after the Toronto training camp. Vancouver was hosting Nationals over the long weekend, so I had to fit my training in between scorekeeping and singing duties.

On court, my focus is both on volume shooting and on specific types of shots from certain areas of the floor. I’ve zeroed in on a few spots where I should be able to exploit defenses. Continuing to develop my left hand is another area of emphasis this summer. My left is a strength, but not yet a weapon – that’s the goal.

I use the word “shooting” as a catch-all term for individual skill development ie. passing, ballhandling, shooting etc…

***Thanks to Kevin Smith for the photos. Check out some of his work here. Great shots from Sydney and Athens under “Bogetti-Smith Gallery”.***

Monday May 12 – R and R in Fergus

Tuesday May 13 – flight back to Vancouver

Wednesday May 14 – 90 minutes shooting with Bo and Erik, using The Gun (a shooting machine) – 2 hr practice and shooting

Thursday May 15- 90 minutes shooting, pushing drills at UBC

Friday May 16 – 1 hr lifting – 90 minutes shooting

Saturday May 17 – 1 hr lifting – 90 minutes shooting, shot chart

Sunday May 18 – 90 minutes shooting

Weekly Training Log #1 May 5-11

May 15, 2008

This is my first weekly training log. These will get more detailed as I go along for anyone who’s curious about how I train and what I’m working on. I’m going to start with last week May 5 – 11. It was a strange one, coming off a long tournament and heading into a tough training camp, with a shoulder MRI squeezed in there. It’s nice to finally know what’s really going on with my shoulder. Not the best news, but with a bit of care and caution I should be able to train at a high level all summer. It’ll take discipline though. Stretching, band and ball exercises, ice, monitoring, knowing when to stop. Not exactly strengths of mine, but it’s never too late to learn.

The training camp was grueling. A solid throwback performance by Coach Frog(ley). I think he wanted to set the tone for the summer, while making use of every single minute we had on court together. Potent combo. Any upstart rumours entertaining the notion that Frog is getting soft may consider themselves effectively crushed.

Mon. May 5 – day after Defi Sportif – 1 hr lifting with Dave – flight home to Vancouver

Tues. May 6 – shoulder MRI – 2 hrs handcycling

Wed. May 7 – Evh test measuring respiratory function during exercise. Failed. I’m a weezer. – 1 hr shooting – 90 min evening practice

Thurs. May 8 – travel to Toronto for training camp

Fri. May 9 – 6 hrs on court with Team Canada – evening nutrition and video sessions

Sat. May 10 – 6 hrs on court with Team Canada – evening feasting and team bondage…er bonding

Sun. May 11 – 5 hrs on court with Team Canada – crash – burn – home to Fergus to pick up the pieces…
